The thing that frustrated me the most about this activity was not being able to talk, this restricted our communication quite a bit, we were unable to tell each other our ideas and were forced to find more difficult ways to communicate.
2. How did you deal with your frustration or challenge of the activity? The way I dealt with my frustration was by laughing. I turned every frustrating situation into a funny one so we could stay on task and not let our frustration overcome us. But truthfully, no one in our group actually got angry.
3. Did you see yourself as a helper or as a one who sabotaged or did not contribute to the group’s problem of building a free standing tower?I definitely consider myself as a helper because I was constantly coming up with ideas, listening to others’ ideas, and assisting in the building itself. I definitely not one who sabotaged my group because I actually wanted to successfully complete the task.
4. What did you learn about yourself as a team player in doing this exercise? Were you a leader, a contributor, or a burden to the group?I would consider myself all 3. I tried to come up with ideas and lead my group, I listened to other ideas and tried to help in building. But my constant goal in using one of my ideas my have been a burden to my group.
5. How did you feel when people in your group were interfering with the success of the tower competition?I was quite annoyed when someone in my group was putting our chance of winning at risk. It was also annoying when group members would just give up, or not try to accomplish the task due to their own frustration.. Luckily this did not happen too much in my group.
6.What did you do to motivate your group members to stay on task, to not give up and to follow the rules? The way I motivated my group members was by encouraging them with thumbs ups and by showing them the progress of other groups so they would speed up.
7. Did you feel you did everything possible to find a solution to the problem of building a straw tower or were you stubborn with your own ideas and not willing to listen or go along with other ideas presented?I definitely wasn’t stubborn with my own ideas, but I did not do everything possible to find the best possible solution either. In the end we used a mix of my ideas and other group members’ ideas.
8. What essential skills do you think you needed to succeed at this competition?Confidence, co-operation and encouragement were very important skills needed to complete the task successfully, we showed all of these skills most of the time, but not all the time, and that may be the reason we were unsuccessful.
9. Which of those skills listed in question #8 do you think might be essential in being a good drama student?I think all of the skills I listed are key to being a good drama student. They all have separate reasons for being so, but if all used together, the student is bound to have a great year in Drama.
